ABOUT TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was developed and released by Konami in 1989, during the height of the popularity of the original animated television series. The side-scrolling beat-'em-up allowed players to control Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, or Raphael as they battled the Foot Clan and familiar villains on their way to confront Shredder.
The large arcade cabinet supported four players simultaneously, with each control position dedicated to a specific Turtle. Its colorful graphics, cooperative gameplay, recognizable characters, and audio drawn from the animated series made the machine an especially memorable fixture in arcades during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
ARCADE TRIVIA: The game's opening recreates the burning apartment building and April O'Neil's kidnapping from the animated series, immediately dropping players into the action. The four-player cabinet also meant there was no arguing over which Turtle you selected—the control station determined your character. If you wanted Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, or Raphael, you had to stand at that Turtle's controls.
